I was thinking of most of those lines while I wrote the review actually. However, because of my deadline I couldn't give the ultimate edition the same depth I had given the film in my original review. And thanks for commenting.vitogullahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08556721903757520835noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8738913215613003817.post-42703007088255776592016-07-20T12:46:32.037-04:002016-07-20T12:46:32.037-04:00This comment has been removed by the author.vitogullahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08556721903757520835noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8738913215613003817.post-56207757588120588972016-07-20T12:21:30.815-04:002016-07-20T12:21:30.815-04:00"Power can be innocent" compactly summar..."Power can be innocent" compactly summarizes the whole point of BvS:

Lex first said that line with the “the oldest lie in America” thing. He is anti-God and believed that “If God is all powerful, he could not be all good. If God is all good, he could not be all powerful.” He framed, demonized Superman and even pitted Batman against him just to prove the said idea.

Bruce is already 20 years into Batman and has seen good guys turn from good to bad. He first-handed witnessed the destructive power of Superman and became paranoid about that. He then developed the notion “if there is 1% of Superman going crazy(even though he seems like a good guy right now), we have to take it as absolute certainty.” At the “Martha” moment, he saw the humanity in Superman and chose to give him a chance. Maybe, men are still good. Maybe, I was just being way too suspicious. Maybe, I should have faith in the 99%. (But it does not mean he gives up on killing thugs if necessary. It just means he believes Superman can be all good all the way without ever turning bad. So, he spared him)

With all the hatred from Lex and doubts from Bruce, between choosing “be their monument or be none of it…” , Superman chose to use his final power for the ultimate sacrifice and saved them all, which indirectly proved that “Power can be innocent”

Whenever people ask me what the hell BvS is even about, I think I will just give my answer starting with that line.

In addition, in the following, I will let the movie speak for itself on how the lines are interconnected to deliver the theme.

“Are you, as a United States senator, personally comfortable saying to a grieving parent, Superman COULD HAVE SAVED your child, but on principle, we DID NOT WANT HIM TO ACT?”

“And so we are left to wonder if superman was AWARE of the threat and DID NOTHING, was he then COMPLICIT in the capitol tragedy?”

“No man in the sky INTERVENED when I was a boy to deliver me from daddy’s fist and abominations.”

“If God is ALL POWERFUL, he cannot be all good. If God is ALL GOOD, he cannot be all powerful.”

“My parents taught me a different lesson, DYING in the gutter FOR NO REASON at all.”

“Men are STILL GOOD. We fight, we kill, we betray one another, but we can rebuild. We can do better. We will. We have to.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14118762409384525877noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8738913215613003817.post-79813155591274737162016-07-20T12:19:56.049-04:002016-07-20T12:19:56.049-04:00This comment has been removed by the author.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14118762409384525877noreply@blogger.com
